200 lb 4 year old (oh, he is really 17?)

I have decided that I will start telling some of the tales of the tourists that come and stay with us in Mammoth. We have said for years that we should document these things and we haven't yet, so here is a start.

This week we had a group staying with us from Canada. It was three mothers and nine teenage boys. They had flown into Mammoth for a ski competition. They had two units at two different condo projects. We picked them up at the airport and even drove them a couple of other places because they didn't have a car. Very polite woman with very obnoxious teenage boys.

The first night they are here one of the boys, who is 6 feet tall and 200lbs decides to jump from the top bunk of one of the beds onto the neighboring queen bed. Now, this bed happens to be in one of our nicest units. The owners have spared no expense in remodeling it and furnishing it. The queen bed is beautiful with solid poplar wood head board, foot board and frame. This is not a cheap, old, hand me down bed. This is a nice bed that I would not be able to afford to purchase for myself.

Upon landing on the queen bed the boy smashes it into several pieces, splitting the frame, the wood slats below and ripping the bolts from the head and foot boards. Now, you might think that the boy would be so horrified that he just smashed this bed, felt so bad about it, and regretted doing it that he would have called our company right away to report this horrible thing that had happened. Or, maybe the adult who (later admitted ) saw this boy jump and smash the bed would have felt responsible to report the damage. Oh no, not until the next afternoon, after trying to sleep on the broken bed did they decide they couldn't really sleep well on the bed so they would have to tell someone so they could fix it.

Jeremy responded to the call. When he got there the adult was not home but three teenage boys were there. Jeremy had to coax the story out of them because he was not going to accept that this nice hardwood bed would just simple break while they were sleeping. Once the truth was out, Jeremy moved the mattress to load up all the pieces and take them out of the unit just to see if there was anything to do to fix this. of course the bed can not be fixed. While moving the mattress and sheets Jeremy noticed that everything was wet, stained and sticky. "What happened here?" he asked. After trying to beat around the question Jeremy told the boy that it would be best if he would just tell the truth so we can have it cleaned properly. So, deciding this sounded fair the kid admitted to falling asleep in the bed with a Coke and of course, the entire thing spilled all over the bedding, sheets, mattress pad and mattress. Who does that?

Today the group checked out. The maids called to say that there was also a broken picture and that they were taking the bedding down to the local laundry mat to have everything washed. I went to the unit to get the broken picture. They had duct taped the glass and hung the picture back up. Like we wouldn't notice.

So, the boys mother is bailing out her son with her credit card so we can replace the nice things in the poor owners unit.

But seriously, who does that? My four year knows better then to jump on a bed, and especially not to leap from the top of a bunkbed down onto another bed.

Snow

Here are some pictures of the snow on the first day of the storm. It was falling so perfectly with no wind. This is from our living room window.

Same shot from our window but now the snow is so thick you can hardly see down the street. This is still with no wind.

Before.

After

We really only got about six feet of snow and we never got the high winds like Southern California. As many of you looking at this know, we have seen much worse about 5 years ago. Still a good storm.
